The "Coolest" Coolpix Camera

Recently Evelyn Drake had a chance to test out the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj. She determined that this compact model is a fantastic camera for people who love to socialize. Here is a brief introduction to her article:

"If you have not seen or heard about the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj yet, you are missing out. This seemingly ordinary compact camera has a very special feature: a built-in projector! At first I was extremely sceptical. What can a compact camera with a gimmicky looking feature like this do for me? After giving it a chance, this feature is actually really cool and has come handy in many social situations." - Evelyn.Drake

Click here to read Evelyn's complete article.

Cramped But Cool Underground Studio in Alberta

This year’s Cramped But Cool Studio Showcase drew submissions from PDN readers all across North America and are giving their readers the chance to vote for their favourite space. Brent Mykytyshyn from Calgary submitted images from his studio located in the design district and we agree with PDN that it is a very cramped, yet cool space for photo magic to happen.

The writers from PDN Pulse said: "It took us a while to figure out what Mykytyshyn's underground space reminded us of. Then it came to us: A bomb shelter." We couln't agree more. Although his little studio is small and windowless it provides a perfect workspace for controlled studio photography. Brent says: "Having no windows is not a problem, as it lets me control the light, but some days you forget what time it is and what the weather is like outdoors—which in the winter suits me fine."

If you would like to read the full story from PDNPulse click here.

If you would like to vote for your favourite studio space on PDNPulse click here.

New Taschen Books: Package Design Now! and A History of Advertising

Our book selection continues to grow with the addition of two new books from Taschen: "Package Design Now!" and "A History Advertising." Both titles are filled with interesting information about the advancements in the way products are marketed and packaged.

A History of Advertising:
The history of western advertising dates back at least the 1630s, when Frenchman Théophraste Renaudot placed the first advertising notes in La Gazette de France. In 1786, William Tayler offered his services as "Agent to the Country’s Printers, Booksellers, etc," but the term "advertising agency" originated in 1842, when Volney B. Palmer opened for business in Philadelphia. Widely accepted as the birth of modern advertising, this marks the beginning of a creative industry that has radically transformed our culture and language.

Package Design Now!:
No other book on the market explores global contemporary packaging to the extent and detail that Package Design Now! does. Practically everything you buy comes in some sort of package—some are just functional, while others strive to be as innovative, elegant, and eye-catching as possible. This book features eye-catching package icons from Apple iPhone to De Beers diamonds, that reveal the hard work dedicated to deliver these products with intense appeal, including in-depth case studies about package design developments, giving readers a peek at the way packaging is made and designed.
