Leica M9 Digital Rangefinder and X1 Compact Announced
The Leica M9 features a 24 x 36mm full-frame sensor with a resolution of 18 megapixels, as well as the addition of a newly developed glass sensor cover designed to guarantee the suppression of the infrared portion of the light spectrum, avoiding the need to mount special UV/IR filters.
Among many new features, the addition of a new, microprocessor-controlled, particularly silent, metal-leaf, focal-plane shutter that enables shutter speeds of up to 1/4000 seconds means that the photographer still has complete creative freedom by using selective focus at maximum apertures, even in bright situations.
The M9 offers a simple, clearly laid-out and intuitive menu system that concentrates purely on the essentials; eliminating any multifunction buttons or complex menu hierarchies. The key control is an intuitive four-way switch and dial combination that enables fast menu navigation.

Also available is the brand new Leica X1, which is a compact camera with a large APS-C sensor and a fixed 35mm equivalent field-of-view F2.8 autofocus lens. Featuring a design reminiscent of M-series rangefinders, complete with analogue-style shutter speed and aperture dials, the camera offers a choice of fully automatic or manual control. It is equipped with a 2.7" LCD and 12MP CMOS sensor with an ISO range of 100 to 3200.
