When The City isn't Looking - Bill Peters
Posted October 31, 2008. Filed under Photo Exhibit.
Georgia O’Keefe once said, “Nothing is less real than realism… it is only by selection, by elimination, by emphasis that we get at the real meaning of things.” Bill Peters, a photographic artist based in Calgary, Canada, studied photography at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. He says, “Sometimes an image strikes me with such force that I stop dead and collide with other pedestrians. When one of my images stops a viewer in the same way – I know I’ve made a connection.” Peters exploits new techniques in archival pigment printing to capture the graphic forms of our cities in a “heightened reality”. . His prints have a scale, vibrancy and impact usually associated with oil paintings. The show includes cities ranging from Montreal and Toronto to San Francisco and Seattle with special emphasis on Calgary. When the City Isn’t Looking is featured at the Gallery of Photographic Arts, Canada Nov. 5th through December 2nd, 2008.
