The workshop consists of two sessions, a Friday evening session on June 2 at The Camera Store's Classroom, and a Saturday morning hands-on Field workshop on June 3rd in Bragg Creek.

Maximum Participants: 6

Classroom Session
Friday June 2nd, 2017 7:00 PM-9:00 PM

At the classroom, we will discuss preparations, equipment, accessories and possible settings for the next day. We’ll discuss lighting and time of day and weather and what that means for when to set out.

We’ll talk about camera settings for the kinds of things we will see, and give some thought as to how to approach the subject. We’ll talk about photographing water, use of ND filters vs. multiple exposures, what f stops make sense for landscapes and how much depth of field do we really have.

Hands-On Field Workshop in Bragg Creek
Saturday June 3rd 8:00 AM – 1:30 PM

We will meet at the Elbow Falls Parking Lot, far end (where cars can turn around), at 8 am sharp.

I will devote my time to helping you, with settings and camera placement, composition and framing. The group is going to be very small so that I can work with all of you.

If the weather is really foul, we’ll go out anyway - in general cameras are tougher than photographers and decent protection for your gear can be found at your local grocery store freezer bag isle - or even better; The Camera Store. Besides, the worse the weather the more we can make use of that to make our images.

Depending on light and weather, I plan for us to be at the Falls for no more than an hour or so, and then will move on to either Beaver Flats, or the trail opposite. We will spend our last hour or so in the canyon below Canoe Launch (at bottom of steep hill on the way to the falls).

Lunch Break:
We’ll break for lunch (buy or bring your own) in Bragg Creek at about 1 PM, and over lunch talk about what we’ve seen and learned and shot, and give you a chance to ask questions.

Times & Locations:

Recommended Equipment for Field Workshop:
Your equipment can be as simple as your phone camera on up. Tripods are not essential but can be nice for photographing water. I wouldn’t run out and buy a tripod before - I’m sure you can borrow one somewhere - and even without a tripod you should find things to photograph.

- Camera & Lenses
- Charged Batteries
- Memory cards
- Tripod or monopod
- Layered Clothing with comfortable footwear
- Packed food or cash for your lunch
- Water Bottle
